Press releases > Writing Instruments Industry Expected to Top $19 Billion in Worldwide Sales by 2015
February 16, 2011 - Staten Island, NY - The writing and marking instruments industry, which includes pen, pencil and marker manufacturers such as BIC, Pentel, Sanford, and Crayola is expected to grow to over $19 billion by 2015, according to a study released by GIA. The anticipated strong growth in demand for pens, pencils and markers over the next 4 years is a much welcome sign to an industry that experienced stagnant conditions during the economic downturn of 2008 through 2009.
Despite the increased use of electronic communication via Internet and mobile, new innovations in manufacturing, combined with the addition of numerous pen and pencil styles, sizes and designs will help fuel the growth. Increases in sales revenues are expected across the board from individual unit sales, to large quantity personalized pen orders from the corporate market.
One of the hotter trends in the industry is the increased focus on sustainable development. For example, to reduce the use of non-renewable resources, BIC is expanding its product range of promotional pens that use newer materials, such as bioplastics and recycled materials. Pentel, with their Recyclogy initiative, focuses on ways to reduce waste through more innovative product design and manufacturing.
"The renewed health of our industry is certainly good news for manufacturers, distributors and consumers of custom pens, pencils, and markers", comments PENSRUS CEO Henry Morgan. "We look forward to continuing to offer the most cost effect writing solution to this re-energized market."
